President Joe Biden issued a strong warning, claiming that Donald Trump and other MAGA Republicans are hell-bent on “destroying democracy.”
Biden passionately criticized former President Trump during a fundraiser event in New York City on Monday night.
Considering the current public opinion polls, it is highly probable that the two men will face off in a rematch of the 2020 election in 2024, as emphasized by Biden.
“There is no doubt that our democracy was in jeopardy in 2020. Thanks to individuals like you, we emerged victorious,” Biden confidently stated.
“I am running because the fate of democracy hangs in the balance. Once again, in 2024, the future of our democracy will be at stake,” he asserted, assuring his supporters that if reelected, “we will have successfully safeguarded American democracy.”
“Make no mistake: Donald Trump and his cohorts from the MAGA movement are resolute in their mission to undermine the very foundation of American democracy,” warned Biden. “Rest assured, I will always stand up, defend, and fight for the preservation of our democracy.”
Biden further highlighted the contrasting views he holds with regard to Russian President Vladimir Putin compared to Trump’s perspective.
“I will never align myself with dictators like Putin. While Trump and his MAGA allies might choose to bow down, I refuse to do so,” declared Biden firmly.
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, responded to Biden’s remarks by suggesting that it is Biden himself who poses a threat to democratic values.
“Crooked Joe Biden is the one who has weaponized the Justice Department, using it to target his main political opponent – President Trump,” criticized Cheung.
“Biden has orchestrated these illicit witch hunts in an attempt to interfere in an election where President Trump is leading in the polls.”
Trump has faced indictment on four separate occasions since spring, with two of the cases being pursued by special counsel Jack Smith, appointed to the role by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
In federal court in Washington, D.C., Smith’s office is prosecuting Trump for alleged crimes related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, while in Florida federal court, Trump faces charges for withholding classified records after leaving the White House and purportedly attempting to conceal them from government officials.
In addition, Trump is also facing state court charges in Atlanta for alleged offenses related to his endeavor to overturn Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Furthermore, he is facing charges in New York state court for allegedly falsifying business records in relation to a 2016 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
