Beauty Pageant Empowers Women, Indigenous People, and Brings Hope to Sick Children: Faith C. Recto Makes a Runway Comeback

Faith C. Recto has always captivated the attention of others. With an aura of a princess or a famous movie star, she effortlessly draws people’s eyes towards her, even in the most mundane moments. This may explain her deep desire and unwavering passion to become a beauty queen in her youth. However, fate had grander plans for her—a path that would not only grant her the crown but also secure a powerful position for her own dynasty.

Born to loving parents from South Cotabato, Faith was the eldest among three siblings and the favorite child of the entire clan. She fondly recalls her joyful childhood, blessed with supportive family members who encouraged her to achieve great things in life. Growing up, she developed a fascination for beauty pageants, often sneaking into her mother’s makeup set to experiment. It wasn’t long before she seized the opportunity to participate in a local pageant in her province, and the outcome surpassed her expectations. She returned home with the crown, her heart imprinted with a powerful advocacy.

At the age of 14, Faith represented the B’laan tribe, an indigenous community caught in the midst of multilayered conflicts that had hindered their economic and cultural development. Although young, Faith noticed the tribe’s lack of access to basic government services such as electricity, healthcare, water, and educational facilities. These realities propelled her to give her best, and against all odds, she emerged victorious as the youngest and shortest candidate. Faith became the first and last candidate from her hometown to win a beauty pageant in South Cotabato. This achievement motivated her to participate in larger pageants, an idea that conflicted with her parents’ reservations as they believed it could impede her academic performance.

Faith recalls a memorable incident during her final pageant before leaving for college in Manila. Determined to participate against her parents’ wishes, she had to climb out of her window to escape and join a beauty pageant in Digos, Davao. Being aware of her physical limitations for these competitions, she lacked the height typically required. Nonetheless, Faith possessed beauty, talent, and most importantly, wit that set her apart from the rest. She may not have been the most striking figure on stage, but her eloquence during the question-and-answer portion made a lasting impression on the judges. Her showcased talent became an added advantage.

Although the opportunity to pursue pageantry evaded her when she relocated to Manila for college, Faith never let go of her dream of becoming a queen. Now, a mother of three, she has achieved numerous goals outlined in her book, ensuring a secure and comfortable life for her family. Alongside her successful business ventures, Faith actively advocates for good governance and women’s empowerment. Yet, destiny’s hand guides her back to fulfilling her childhood aspirations.

Recently, a prominent group approached Faith for sponsorship in major pageants across the country. This rekindled her cherished memories as a contestant yearning to make her mark in the beauty industry. Eager to contribute more, Faith was granted the franchise for the Top Model of the World by the World Beauty Organization. She proudly named it Ms. WBO Top Model Philippines. This pageant presents the perfect opportunity for her to support women aspiring to leave their mark, not only in the beauty industry but also in their communities.

Faith’s decision was driven by a desire to inspire, mentor, and support young, talented, and strong women. She recognizes the wealth of knowledge and experiences she can offer, far beyond the realm of beauty pageants. To fully commit to this new journey, Faith stepped down from her various leadership positions and projects. With a fresh perspective, she strives to open doors for aspiring beauty pageant contestants, particularly those from provincial backgrounds. Through Ms. WBO Top Model Philippines, Faith aims to amplify the voices of indigenous communities, a primary advocacy she passionately champions. Additionally, she hopes to empower and inspire more women to be self-reliant, bold, and well-informed about their society. Her dedication extends to supporting children affected by diseases and poverty.

Considering the challenges and struggles faced by women in these competitions, Faith contemplates establishing an academy to train aspiring beauty queens, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in the industry. Drawing from her own experiences, she aims to educate and empower contestants to overcome obstacles and redefine beauty standards. Furthermore, Faith emphasizes the importance of establishing a professional team that upholds ethical practices throughout the pageant, ensuring a fair and just environment.

Alongside her family’s excitement, Faith eagerly anticipates this opportunity of a lifetime. She yearns to exert her influence on society and fulfill her long-held ambition. Though she may not have been a queen before, she now embraces the role of a queen mother. The sashing ceremony for Miss WBO Top Model Philippines is scheduled for September 17, 2023, at the New World Hotel in Makati. The pre-pageant will take place at the UP Theater on November 4, with the coronation night set for November 7, 2023, at the Newport Theater in Resorts World Manila. ADVT.
