Bayern Munich vying to disrupt Manchester United’s pursuit of Mason Mount in transfer window

Bayern Munich is intensifying their interest in Mason Mount and taking advantage of Manchester United’s difficulties in reaching an agreement with Chelsea for the talented midfielder. Despite having three bids rejected, United is contemplating withdrawing from negotiations due to Chelsea’s high valuation of £65m for the 24-year-old. As a result, they are exploring other midfield options, with Moisés Caicedo from Brighton at the top of Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.

Chelsea’s refusal to accept United’s latest offer of £50m plus £5m in add-ons has opened doors for other clubs to enter the bidding war. Thomas Tuchel, Bayern’s manager and Mount’s former coach at Chelsea, greatly admires the midfielder’s abilities and is attempting to disrupt United’s move. There is a chance that Chelsea may consider accepting a lower fee from a foreign club.

While it is uncertain whether Mount would be willing to leave England, the opportunity to play for the German champions, Bayern, would undoubtedly be appealing. Bayern is currently rebuilding after a disappointing performance in the Champions League last season and is eager to support Tuchel. However, they are likely to miss out on another former player of Tuchel’s, Kai Havertz, who seems destined for Arsenal.

Initially, Chelsea set an asking price of £70m plus add-ons for Mount. However, United deemed this demand unrealistic given the player’s contract situation. United has observed that Chelsea is in negotiations to sell the 30-year-old Croatian midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, to Manchester City for £25m plus £5m in add-ons. Considering Kovacic is five years older than Mount, United may seek a middle ground with their offer. If negotiations fail, there is a possibility of Mount leaving Chelsea as a free agent next summer.

Mount has attracted interest not only from United but also from Arsenal and Liverpool. He has already indicated his reluctance to sign an extension, making it possible for him to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club starting in January.

United, in their pursuit of Caicedo, may also compete with Chelsea. Brighton is open to letting the 21-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder leave this summer for the right price.
