Basic Energy plans to construct a 155-MW wind power facility

Basic Energy Corp. (BEC), a listed company, has received approval from the Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a 155-megawatt onshore wind power plant in Iloilo and Antique. The wind plant will cover approximately 13,932 hectares and will be situated in the municipalities of San Joaquin and Miag-ao in Iloilo, as well as Hamtic in Antique. Preliminary studies indicate that the facility could generate up to 175 MW of power. BEC plans to conduct a wind resource assessment campaign to determine the exact wind regime in the area. The company aims to complete the predevelopment stage within five years, expanding its portfolio of renewable energy projects.

BEC’s subsidiary, Mabini Energy Corp. (MEC), is currently developing a 50-MW wind project in Batangas province, which was awarded by the DOE in 2021. MEC holds exclusive rights to explore, develop, finance, and operate the wind power plant for a 25-year period. Additionally, BEC has a 20% participating interest in the Iriga geothermal project in Camarines Sur province.

BEC’s renewable energy ventures are led by its wholly owned subsidiary, Basic Energy Renewables Corp., which recently opened an electric vehicle charging station along Edsa as part of its clean energy transport program.
