Barclays Restores Online Services Swiftly After Brief Two-Hour Outage

Barclays Experiences Outage, Users Express Frustration

Barclays, one of the most popular banking apps in the UK, experienced technical difficulties this afternoon, causing inconvenience to its users. The issues began around 12:07 BST, affecting customers across the country. According to Down Detector, over 2,700 problem reports were logged on the website.

The majority of users, accounting for 67%, reported problems with mobile banking, while 31% encountered issues with online banking. Only 2% of users reported problems with their account balances.

Barclays took to Twitter to acknowledge the outage and apologize to its customers. A tweet from the bank stated, “If you’re having problems logging into our app or Online Banking right now – we’re sorry. We’re working to fix this and will update you here as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can still use our automated telephone service as normal. For updates on all our services, and to request a text when we’re back up and running, search ‘Barclays service status’ online. Thanks for bearing with us.”

The bank later confirmed that the issue had been resolved and tweeted, “Thank you for bearing with us – there were some technical issues that we’ve fixed. You can now log into your app or Online Banking as normal. We’re so sorry it took us so long to fix the issue. We really appreciate your patience.”

Meanwhile, frustrated users vented their frustrations on social media. One user expressed their impatience, saying, “When is this going to get sorted? It’s been over 4 hours now for me that I can’t get into my account. I need to move money from savings to be able to go shopping.” Another user pleaded with Barclays to resolve the issue, stating, “I literally can’t buy myself lunch, please sort this out it’s absolutely ridiculous.” Yet another frustrated customer expressed their embarrassment after leaving their scanned and packed shopping at the supermarket due to the app outage, calling the situation unacceptable.

Despite the disruption, Barclays is now back online after a two-hour outage.
