An attorney representing a woman accusing Warren Beatty of sexual abuse during her teenage years is seeking permission from a judge to withdraw from the case. The attorney, Michael Reck, filed court papers on Friday without providing an explanation for his decision. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for August 31 in Beverly Hills Superior Court before Judge Edward Moreton Jr.
In a sworn declaration, Reck stated, “Over the course of several months, my office has engaged in multiple forms of communication with the plaintiff, including telephone calls, Zoom meetings, and email exchanges regarding the issues prompting this motion. I will ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed and that my client is informed of my withdrawal.”
The plaintiff’s lawsuit, filed on November 7, includes allegations of sexual battery, assault, and a violation of the state Penal Code. The plaintiff claims that when she was a teenager in the 1970s, Beatty, who is now 86 years old, groomed and coerced her into a sexual relationship, taking advantage of his role, status, and influence as a well-known Hollywood star. The suit alleges that this abuse persisted until late 1973.
With a career spanning over six decades and 14 Academy Award nominations, Warren Beatty is a highly acclaimed figure in the film industry. He received an Oscar for Best Director for the 1981 film “Reds.”
