Attempted Concealment Backfires, Resulting in Tragic Freezer Fatality

In a bizarre incident, the body of a man was discovered inside a freezer in an abandoned house in Gilbert, Minnesota. However, authorities now reveal that the man, identified as 34-year-old Brandon Lee Buschman, willingly climbed into the freezer to evade arrest. According to a statement from the Gilbert Police Department, Buschman had an arrest warrant and decided to hide in the freezer. It is still unclear when he entered the freezer.

Interviews with individuals who knew Buschman indicate that he was last seen by them fleeing from the upstairs area of the house, possibly due to the presence of the police. The freezer was not turned on, as the utilities had been shut off since April 2022. Lt. Chelsea Trucano from the Duluth News Tribune reports that the house had been foreclosed upon in February.

Investigators discovered that the freezer had an older model with a latch mechanism on the outside. Once it was shut, Buschman would not have been able to open it from the inside. It appears that he attempted to create a DIY de-latching device, using a metal lawn ornament rod inserted from the inside towards the latch mechanism. Unfortunately, the rod got stuck and did not work. The final autopsy results are expected in a few weeks, but preliminary findings showed no signs of trauma or foul play.
