Ashok Leyland, the leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has recently secured a significant order for 1,282 fully built buses from the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC).
This order, considered one of the largest received by a state transport undertaking from a single original equipment manufacturer (OEM), is expected to reinforce Ashok Leyland’s dominant position in the Indian bus market, according to the company’s press release.
Under the agreement, Ashok Leyland plans to deliver 55-seater fully assembled BS VI diesel buses to GSRTC in a phased manner.
At the time of reporting, the company’s shares were trading 1.6% higher at Rs 176.8.
Shenu Agarwal, the Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, emphasized the durability, robustness, and state-of-the-art technology of the company’s buses, which have made Ashok Leyland a preferred choice for both government and private customers. Agarwal added, “We are proud to offer unmatched cost-effectiveness and exceptional product experiences, setting the highest industry standards.”
GSRTC has a longstanding partnership with Ashok Leyland, with over 2,600 buses from the company currently in operation. Sanjeev Kumar, the President of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles at Ashok Leyland, stated, “This latest order further strengthens our order book, reaching an impressive total of over 4,000 buses from State Transport Undertakings. We are delighted to have GSRTC as a cherished and longstanding partner, and we take pride in our consistent track record of delivering high-performance vehicles to them.”
