Arteta happy with Arsenal’s victory at Palace despite Tomiyasu’s red card

On August 21st, 2023, Arsenal’s bench celebrated their 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace as if it were the pivotal game in the Premier League season, despite it only being the second week. Their team managed to secure the win despite playing with ten men for the majority of the match due to Takehiro Tomiyasu’s red card.

The Japanese defender was penalized for time-wasting, receiving a yellow card for taking too long during a throw-in. He was then sent off in the 67th minute for a shirt pull on Jordan Ayew.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta praised his team’s celebrations, emphasizing their desire to win. He expressed gratitude towards the bench players for their contribution to the victory.

Arteta acknowledged the challenges posed by the new time-wasting rules and predicted that it would be difficult for his team in the future. He humorously suggested that they might end up playing with fewer than eleven players, which could lead to an entertaining game.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, with his extensive experience, took a more accepting stance towards the rule changes, recognizing that they are imposed upon the teams and must be adapted to.
