Arrest Made: Man Connected to Suspected Shooter Apprehended, Reports AP – Orange County Register

Las Vegas police have finally made an arrest in the 1996 drive-by shooting of rapper Tupac Shakur, a case that has captivated the public for over two decades. Duane “Keffe D” Davis was taken into custody early Friday morning on unspecified charges, as confirmed by two officials with direct knowledge of the arrest. Davis has been a person of interest in the investigation for a long time and even confessed to his involvement in interviews and his tell-all memoir released in 2019.

The arrest comes after a raid on Davis’s wife’s home in July, where the police were searching for evidence related to Shakur’s murder. They seized various items, including computers, a cellphone, a hard drive, a Vibe magazine featuring Shakur, bullets, photographs, and a copy of Davis’s memoir.

Tupac Shakur was just 25 years old when he was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas Strip. He was traveling in a BMW with Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight when a white Cadillac pulled up next to them at a red light and opened fire. Shakur was shot multiple times and passed away a week later.

In 2018, Davis revealed in an interview that he was present in the Cadillac during the attack. He implicated his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, as one of the individuals responsible for the gunfire. Anderson denied any involvement and later died in another shooting. Shakur’s death occurred during a high-profile feud with rapper Biggie Smalls, who was also fatally shot months later.

Greg Kading, a retired Los Angeles detective who extensively investigated the killings of Shakur and Biggie Smalls, expressed satisfaction with Davis’s arrest. He believes that Davis’s public admissions in recent years provided the necessary impetus for the case to move forward. Kading, who interviewed Davis during his investigation, stated that the cases were always solvable but lacked the evidence to prosecute until now.

The arrest of Duane “Keffe D” Davis is a significant breakthrough in the long-standing investigation into Tupac Shakur’s murder. It offers hope to fans and justice-seekers who have waited patiently for answers and closure in this high-profile case that has left an indelible mark on the music industry.
