Arrest Made in Connection to Multiple Fires in Fairfax District

An individual, aged 34, has been detained on Friday under suspicion of causing a series of fires in the Fairfax district since May. Delano Thompson, who authorities claim was living in his car, was apprehended on Wednesday and is currently held in jail, with bail set at $600,000. Law enforcement officials have identified Thompson as being connected to at least eight cases of arson, utilizing surveillance footage from various fire incidents to track down the suspect vehicle.

During the months of May and June, multiple fires were reported in the Fairfax area, with some incidents involving the destruction of several vehicles in various garage fires. Detective Roger Allen from the Los Angeles Police Department commented, “As we analyzed the incidents, it became evident that there were clusters of fires, indicating a serious issue that needed to be addressed.”

One of the fires which Thompson is suspected of starting occurred in an outbuilding at a Jewish girls’ high school on Beverly Boulevard. However, the police have stated that they do not currently have any evidence to suggest that the act constitutes a hate crime.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Erik Scott, a total of 52 arson suspects have been arrested within the local area over the past six months. Scott stated, “They were causing fires, damaging property, and instilling fear within neighborhoods. Fortunately, they are now off the streets.”
