Archbishop Gomez to Commemorate Special Mass at Shrine in Mexico City

Archbishop José H. Gomez is set to lead a unique and special Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. More than 200 pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be in attendance, making this a momentous occasion.

During the Mass, the Archbishop will present prayer intentions for the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe. These intentions were collected from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, as well as from all 11 locations of the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries, and online. This is a symbolic gesture, as these prayers will be offered to Our Lady during the Mass.

For those unable to attend, the Mass will be live-streamed at lacatholics.org/pilgrimage/ starting at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

This pilgrimage marks the fourth time that the Archdiocese has journeyed to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This iconic shrine houses the original cloak of St. Juan Diego, which is believed to bear the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, an event that took place in 1531.

The Basilica at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe holds the distinction of being the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. It draws countless believers and tourists every year who seek solace and inspiration.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is an important figure in Catholicism. She is a title given to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and is associated with a series of five Marian apparitions that took place in December 1531. These apparitions were said to have been witnessed by St. Juan Diego, a Mexican peasant, and his uncle, Juan Bernardino.
