Apple released iOS 17.0.3 on Wednesday, which includes a fix for an issue causing the latest iPhone 15 models to overheat.
According to the software’s change log, “This update provides important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.”
Over the weekend, Apple confirmed reports on social media about the new iPhones getting warm. They explained that the problem resulted from a combination of improperly configured apps, iOS bugs, and the extra processing and heat generation during the initial setup period.
The iOS update released on Wednesday addresses these issues, and app developers are also releasing updates with fixes for their apps.
Apple clarified that the heat issue was not related to the new titanium and aluminum frame design of the higher-end Pro models, nor was it related to the USB-C charging port on the new phones.
According to Apple’s website, all iPhones may feel warmer in certain situations, such as during backup restoration, wireless charging, usage of graphics-intensive apps or games, or while streaming high-quality video. Apple assures users that iPhones are safe to use unless a temperature warning is explicitly displayed.
