According to MacRumors, Apple’s iOS 17 for the iPhone now has “improved autocorrect functionality.” CNET explains that this means your iPhone keyboard can now learn curse words. Apple revealed the enhancements to its word correction and prediction system during its Worldwide Developers Conference. If your phone tries to correct a word that you don’t want changed, a line will appear under the corrected word, and you can tap it to restore the original version.
The Guardian reports that users will be particularly happy that the word “ducking” will no longer be swapped in for a curse word, as has been a long-standing source of frustration. iOS 17 will also learn your typing habits over time, allowing you to type curse words without interference. During the keynote speech, Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior VP of software engineering, quipped, “In those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it.” iOS 17 is expected to be available in beta version next month and fully released in September.
