In a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with four other progressive colleagues, has called for an investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s alleged financial benefits from Republican megadonor Harlan Crow and other billionaires. The letter accuses Thomas of consistently failing to report valuable gifts he received from Crow over the past fifteen years, despite certifying the accuracy and completeness of his financial disclosure forms. It also cites a ProPublica investigation that revealed Thomas’ close friendship with Crow, which included luxury vacations on Crow’s private jet and yacht, as well as free stays on Crow’s vacation property. The letter further claims that Thomas did not recuse himself from cases where there were potential conflicts of interest. Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to express her belief that no one is above the law and called for the Department of Justice to investigate Thomas for violating the Ethics of Government Act of 1978. Thomas previously defended the trips he took with Crow, stating that he sought guidance and was advised that these personal hospitality gestures from close friends, who did not have business before the Court, were not reportable. Fox News Digital has reached out to Thomas and the DOJ for comment.
