Renowned singer Anita Baker has announced that Babyface will no longer be opening for her on tour due to cyberbullying from his fan base. Baker, who is currently on her “The Songstress” tour, stated that she will continue the tour alone to ensure her personal safety.
Baker, a talented artist with eight Grammy wins and hits such as “Sweet Love” and “Caught Up in the Rapture,” has made the decision to proceed with the tour alone. The remaining tour dates for this summer will still take place, with the tour resuming in November.
Babyface, whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, responded on Twitter expressing his sadness over being removed from the tour by Baker. He also expressed his love and respect for Anita and wished her the best for the remainder of the tour.
Earlier in May, Babyface shared on Twitter that Baker had requested him not to perform during a show in New Jersey in order to give her space. He expressed his disappointment in not being able to perform for the audience that night. Babyface is renowned for his hits like “Every Time I Close My Eyes” and “When Can I See You.”
Baker also had a message for her fans who might be experiencing harassment from people claiming to be Babyface fans. She advised them to block and report the harassment and not engage on her behalf.
CBS News has reached out to representatives of both Baker and Babyface for further comments.
