Angelica Ross maintains her criticism of the cast and crew of “American Horror Story,” revealing that Ryan Murphy once cursed at her in response to her tweet about racism on set.

Ross shared with THR’s Seth Abramovitch that the incident occurred after working with a crew member for a driving scene in “American Horror Story: 1984.” According to Ross, this crew member wore racially offensive t-shirts daily on set.

“One day it was, ‘Build that wall.’ The next day it was white praying hands in front of an American flag, and it said, ‘I don’t kneel.’ Those are the ones I remember. This guy had a collection. I started speaking up about it,” she recalled.

Frustrated by the crew member’s offensive shirts distracting her during takes, Ross eventually walked off set and sought refuge in a production van.

“I said, ‘I’m not coming out of this van until you handle the situation. Either he has to take that shirt off or turn it inside out, but this is not right,'” she explained.

When the episode’s director attempted to coax her back to set, arguing that the crew member’s shirts were a “freedom of speech issue,” Ross refused and tweeted about the incident, stating, “It’s a shame that I do all this work out in the world on anti-Blackness and racism and have to come to a set and do the same work.”

Shortly after, Ross received a call from Tanase Popa, one of the show’s producers, informing her that Murphy felt she should delete the tweet, as they were handling the situation and emphasized their unity as a family.

Ross agreed to delete the tweet but expressed feeling silenced. Murphy immediately called her in response.

“He starts off not with, ‘Are you OK?’ Not with, ‘What’s going on?’ He starts off with: ‘What’s your fucking problem?! Are you serious?!’ He goes, ‘You think that I would fucking silence you after all I’ve done and I’ve been an advocate and done nothing but uplift trans Black women?'” Ross detailed her conversation with Murphy to The Hollywood Reporter.

“He is cussing me out. After he finishes, I say, ‘Ryan, that’s not what’s going on here. First of all, the situation has not been handled. The guy is still on set,'” she continued.

Ross expressed her feelings of being unsafe on set to Murphy and criticized him for leaving her with the responsibility of addressing the situation that he should handle.

Ross stated that Murphy apologized for his behavior and expressed his desire to be her advocate.

Elsewhere in the article, Ross mentioned that Murphy no longer responds to her attempts to contact him.

FX and Murphy’s representatives have not yet responded to Insider’s request for comment. The THR report includes a detailed comment from producer Tanase Popa, who disputes Ross’s claim of Murphy cursing at her.

“His assistant Sara Stelwagen was next to him, and we did not hear him cuss at her or say, ‘After all I’ve done for you, why would you do this?’ He basically said, ‘I don’t understand why you would go to Twitter instead of coming to us,'” the producer stated, partially quoting his conversation with Murphy.

Ross’s accusations follow her previous claim of her “AHS” co-star Emma Roberts making a transphobic remark towards her on set. (Ross later tweeted that Roberts apologized to her.) She had previously claimed that Murphy ignored her after discussing the idea of an all-Black season of “American Horror Story.”
