Three men have been charged with murder and robbery in connection with the tragic incident that took place at a scenic turnout on Angeles Crest Highway in Pasadena back in July. This development was announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday.
The individuals facing charges are Luis Ventura, 24, Marco Antonio Hernandez, 18, and Abraham Ernesto Alvarenga Cortez, 21. Authorities have determined that Jesse Enrique Munoz, the victim, was shot multiple times at around 3:50 a.m. on July 22. Additionally, the three men are also charged with robbing a female who was accompanying Munoz, as stated by the District Attorney’s Office.
Cortez has an additional charge for personally using a handgun in the commission of the crime.
Ventura, who was apprehended by Pasadena police on July 26, was initially charged with robbery but was later also charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty and is set to appear in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on October 6 for a hearing to determine the sufficiency of evidence in proceeding to trial. Hernandez and Cortez are scheduled to be arraigned on September 11.
The District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that a fourth individual involved in the crime has yet to be identified.
Munoz was allegedly robbed and murdered by the three defendants, alongside an unidentified individual, resulting in his tragic death at the scene.
In July, Lt. Keith Gomez of the Pasadena Police Department stated that investigators believed there was a connection between Munoz’s shooting and the killings of two individuals found deceased in a vehicle in Rancho Palos Verdes on July 24.
The victims in the second incident were Jorge Ramos, 36, and Taylor Raven Whittaker, 26. They were both found fatally shot inside a parked Subaru sedan in the 7000 block of Palos Verdes Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Gomez declined to provide specific details regarding the alleged connection between the two shootings.
