ANF Area in Santa Clarita Experiences Agua Fire Expansion to 421 Acres

A brush fire in the Santa Clarita area expanded to 421 acres overnight and is currently 10% contained as of Wednesday, according to authorities.

The Agua Fire was first reported around 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon roads, as stated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire spread into the Angeles National Forest, with county fire crews being joined by U.S. Forest Service firefighters on the front lines.

Crews are battling the flames amid triple-digit temperatures, which led the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley.

Initially estimated at 4 acres, responders at the scene warned that the fire had the potential to spread up to 200 acres. As a result, a second alarm was promptly called, bringing additional crews to assist.

While battling the blaze, one firefighter sustained minor injuries, although the specifics were not disclosed. Metrolink tracks in the vicinity were temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

The flames posed a threat to power lines and some structures, particularly a trailer park in the area.

According to forest service officials, the fire was 10% contained by 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday. As of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, the containment percentage remained unchanged, but the fire had expanded to 421 acres. Steep terrain and limited access were cited as factors contributing to the fire’s growth.

No evacuations have been ordered at this time, although Soledad Canyon Road is closed between Agua Dulce Road and Crown Valley Road, according to the forest service.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
