Retired and with 19 years of experience, former Warriors forward Andre Iguodala has unwavering confidence in his ex-team. He recently appeared on ESPN’s “First Take” with Stephen A. Smith and Christine Williamson to discuss why he believes the Golden State Warriors have what it takes to win an NBA championship this season.
According to Iguodala, having Steph Curry on the team gives the Warriors a fighting chance. He’s of the opinion that you can never count out Curry or LeBron James until the game is over.
Iguodala knows this from his own experience, having won four titles with Curry and the Warriors over eight seasons. He’s also faced James in 26 NBA Finals games throughout his career. In fact, Iguodala was named NBA Finals MVP when the Warriors defeated James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015.
In addition to relying on Curry, Iguodala believes that the Warriors’ experienced supporting cast will contribute to their championship aspirations. He specifically highlighted Chris Paul as an addition to the team. According to Iguodala, Paul brings leadership and can help settle the team down when turnovers become an issue, which has been historically problematic for the Warriors.
Furthermore, Iguodala expressed excitement about Jonathan Kuminga, who had an impressive preseason, and Andrew Wiggins, who missed a large part of last season for personal reasons. Additionally, Klay Thompson is entering a contract year, providing extra motivation for success.
Clearly, Iguodala has good reason to be excited about the Warriors’ roster. Although he is no longer a part of the team, his support for them remains steadfast.
Iguodala will always believe in the Warriors, as long as Curry is on the court.
