Americans Paying Over $1,700 to Attend Two Taylor Swift Concerts in Europe

  • I have been a dedicated fan of Taylor Swift since my childhood and have been fortunate enough to attend her Eras Tour twice in the US.
  • After being completely enamored by those spectacular shows, I have made plans to attend two more concerts in Paris and Milan.
  • I have already spent over $1,700 on tickets and accommodations, and I firmly believe it will be worth every penny.

Having been a devoted fan of Taylor Swift for a significant period of time, I eagerly seized the opportunity to purchase tickets when her Eras Tour was announced in the US.

Despite living in New York City, I registered as a verified fan with Ticketmaster for the Massachusetts show at Gillette Stadium, as I believed I had a better chance of securing tickets in a smaller city. I was even willing to travel by Amtrak from Boston, where my dad resides.

On the day of the sale, I patiently waited for hours in the Ticketmaster queue. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when my computer froze just as I was about to make my purchase. The tickets were sold out right before my eyes. Determined not to miss out, I logged on again three hours later and managed to secure two obstructed-view nosebleed seats for the Friday show, each priced at $50.

Fortunately, a friend of mine had an extra ticket in a better section for the Sunday show, and I happily paid her $200 for a club-level seat.

Considering the cost of my $90 round-trip train ticket, my total expenditure for the weekend of two shows amounted to $340. In my opinion, it was an experience well worth the price.

An opportunity I couldn’t pass up

Having attended the Eras Tour twice in Massachusetts, I knew I couldn’t resist experiencing it again with my mom and my boyfriend. Unfortunately, the ticket resale market in the US was offering tickets at exorbitant prices.

Instead, I decided to join the European leg of the tour, considering that the face-value tickets were more affordable. This allowed me to allocate the remaining funds I would have spent on resale tickets towards flights and accommodations.

I registered for all the European presale dates and successfully obtained codes for both Milan and Paris.

I cherish the wonderful memories I made during the US Eras Tour.

I purchased the Milan show tickets through TicketOne, a site for which I had registered in advance. When the day of the sale arrived, I joined the queue as soon as it opened at 6 a.m. ET and successfully completed my purchase within an hour, securing two tickets for a total of $147.

Once the tickets were secured, I proceeded to book a two-night Airbnb stay in Milan for $324. Although my boyfriend and I haven’t booked our flights yet, as the concert is scheduled for July 2024, I anticipate spending approximately $800 or less for my round-trip ticket.

The Paris show was organized through Ticketmaster, a site I had already encountered difficulties with. Furthermore, the sale was scheduled for 9 a.m. local time, translating to 3 a.m. ET.

Despite the tickets being exclusively available to verified fans with a code, over a million people, including myself, joined the queue. This unprecedented demand caused the site to crash, prompting Ticketmaster to pause the queue and reschedule the sale.

The rescheduled sale was spread out over four days, coinciding with each night of the Paris tour in May 2024.

Determined not to miss out again, I set my alarm for 3 a.m. and attempted to purchase tickets during the first-night sale. However, my card was declined due to potential fraud since I am based in the US. To rectify the situation, I promptly contacted my bank and ensured that any fraud-protection measures for international purchases were temporarily lifted for the next few days.

During the second sale, I once again set my alarm for 3 a.m. and successfully navigated the queue, securing two unobstructed tickets for a total of $267.

My mom and I have planned a five-day stay in Paris, for which I booked an Airbnb at a cost of $1,000. Although our flights are yet to be booked, we are hoping to utilize accumulated airline miles for the majority of the trip.

I believe all the ticket-buying chaos will be worthwhile
