Magnus White, a 17-year-old prodigious American cyclist set to compete in the highly anticipated World Championships in Scotland this August, tragically passed away over the weekend after being hit by a vehicle while training, according to an official statement from USA Cycling.
The young cyclist, who was a member of the esteemed US national team, was struck from behind while cycling near his residence in Boulder, Colorado.
“It is with immense sadness that we announce the untimely passing of 17-year-old cycling prodigy Magnus White in a training accident,” expressed USA Cycling in a heartfelt statement released on Sunday.
“Magnus White was involved in a collision with a car while out on a training ride in his hometown of Boulder, Colorado. Magnus was deeply focused on his final preparations before heading to Glasgow, Scotland for the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross Country World Championships on August 10, 2023.”

White, who emerged victorious at the 2021 US junior cyclocross nationals and represented the US team in a full European cyclocross season, including appearances at the 2022 and 2023 cyclocross world championships, was widely regarded as a rising star in the off-road cycling community.
“He was an extraordinary talent in the off-road cycling world, and his dedication and fervor for the sport were evident through his remarkable performances and strong bond with his teammates and the local cycling community,” stated USA Cycling of their fallen teammate.
