Aug. 5 (UPI) — Days of Our Lives executive producer Albert Alarr has been terminated from Peacock’s daytime drama following an internal investigation into allegations of abuse and misconduct.

“Effective immediately, Janet Drucker will be appointed as co-executive producer of Days of Our Lives to replace Albert Alarr, who is leaving his role,” announced Ken Corday, head of Corday Productions, in a statement released late on Friday.

“Moving forward, we will be implementing additional HR protocols, including an enhanced HR presence and channels for reporting any concerns. It is vital to create a safe and inclusive work environment.”

Alarr issued his own statement in response to the decision that marked the end of his 20-year tenure on the soap opera.

“Many of the claims recently mentioned in the media are simply untrue. Others have been taken completely out of context or twisted to the point where they bear no resemblance to the truth,” stated Alarr.

“To be clear, this entire situation stems from the hostility of just two individuals. These individuals, during a time of industry-wide cutbacks and economic uncertainty, have relentlessly sought increased pay and influence on the show, and it seems they believed that their best strategy to achieve that was to resort to offensive stereotypes in an attempt to bring down a Black man in a position of power.”

Production on the show has been halted since mid-July as the cast and crew publicly voiced their complaints about Corday Productions’ decision to issue Alarr a written warning instead of firing him outright, following Sony Pictures Television’s investigation.

“Many of us have experienced either physical or verbal violations from him, including witnessing objectionable and offensive behavior,” stated the petition from the Days of Our Lives ensemble, demanding Alarr’s removal.
