A Florida mother, Jazmin Paez, was apprehended on Tuesday for allegedly trying to hire a hit man online to kill her 3-year-old son. The arrest came after the administrator of RentAHitman.com, a parody website, contacted the Miami police and reported receiving a seemingly genuine request from Paez. The arrest warrant reveals that Paez provided specific details, including the address and a photograph of her child. Paez supposedly requested that her son be taken away and possibly killed by July 20, stating her desire to “get something done once and for all.” When the police arrived at the provided address, they found the child’s grandparents, who informed them that Paez had been living with her father but maintained daily contact with her son through FaceTime calls. Police officers, posing as a hit man, communicated with Paez and she allegedly agreed to pay $3,000 for the job. Paez was subsequently arrested at her residence, where she consented to a search of her phone. The authorities discovered the incriminating text conversation between Paez and the undercover officer, as well as evidence that she had the RentAHitman.com website open on her device. In addition, the police allege that Paez used her phone to inform someone that the matter was “being taken care of.” Jazmin Paez faces charges of first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree unlawful use of a communications device. She has been released on bail, and her arraignment is scheduled for August 17. The website administrator, Robert Innes, attempted to report Paez’s request to the Miami-Dade Police Department on multiple occasions but was initially directed to the nongovernmental Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers USA, the umbrella organization, issued a cease-and-desist warning to Innes earlier this year, indicating that they were not interested in supporting his site as it did not align with their values and mission.
