In an interview with Mail Sport in January, Hayman spoke about the impact his condition has had on his daily life. He expressed concern about the worsening effects of dementia, including sleep deprivation, constant headaches, forgetfulness, anxiety, and depression. Despite the challenges, Hayman remains determined to stay positive and focus on the present.
Unfortunately, Hayman’s case is not unique, as many former rugby players have faced similar struggles with dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Hayman admitted that accepting his diagnosis has been difficult, but he is learning to redefine what success means for him on a daily basis.
