Alien Contact Expected to Be Initiated by Artificial Intelligence, According to Harvard Professor

A Harvard professor, Avi Loeb, has put forward an intriguing theory in a new documentary titled “God Versus Aliens.” Loeb suggests that if extraterrestrials were to make contact with humans, they would do so through artificial intelligence (AI) rather than traditional crewed vehicles. Speaking to DailyMail.com, director Mark Christopher Lee described Loeb as a “very active mind” and explained that his suggestion is influenced by the immense distances aliens would need to travel to reach us. Lee further elaborates on Loeb’s theory, stating, “Loeb proposes that it’s likely to be some form of AI because why would you send flesh and blood creatures? That means there’s a possibility that their AI could just connect with AI and bypass humans, which is a bit scary to think about.” Loeb also suggests that there could be a kinship between our AI and the alien AI, or our AI may even imitate the alien AI and become like them.
In the film, Loeb expresses his expectation that interstellar travel is best suited for electronic gadgets and devices rather than biological creatures due to the lengthy duration of the journey. Loeb believes that chemical rockets would take approximately 50,000 years to reach the nearest star, whereas AI systems have the patience to endure such journeys and can remain dormant to ensure their survival. If aliens were to visit us, Loeb proposes that our own AI systems could interpret their AI systems, leading to a potential kinship between the two.
Loeb’s theories are not simply limited to speculation, as he has embarked on a $1.5 million ocean expedition in Papua New Guinea. He hopes to find fragments of an object that crashed into the sea there in 2014, which he and his research partner, Amir Siraj, believe to be from outside our solar system. According to Lee, this expedition aims to search the sea bed for evidence of a manufactured object rather than waiting for the American government to provide uncertain findings. This discovery would further support Loeb’s hypotheses regarding the presence of extraterrestrial intelligence.
The documentary also features an interview with Seth Shostak, the Chief Astronomer from SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). Shostak is confident that humans will establish contact with intelligent aliens by 2035, thanks to advancements in technology, particularly the use of AI to scan the skies. Shostak’s predictions also touch on the potential impact of alien contact on world religions, suggesting that aliens may introduce new gods, leading to changes in human worship.
Additionally, the film delves into the interpretation of artworks, such as Carlo Crivelli’s “The Annunciation, with Saint Emidius,” which dates back to 1486. Lee highlights the possibility of UFOs or spaceships being depicted in the artwork and suggests that some may interpret these as signs of extraterrestrial contact. The film contemplates the potential crossover between religion and the existence of intelligent aliens.
“God Versus Aliens” is set to be released on various platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Fire, and Roku, on July 14th. It promises to provide a thought-provoking exploration of the implications and possibilities surrounding alien contact and its influence on our understanding of the universe and ourselves.
