Alex Collins has sadly passed away

The Seahawks organization is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Alex Collins, a beloved teammate and fan favorite who had the privilege of playing for the team twice.

Alex Collins, 28, tragically lost his life on Monday in a motorcycle accident.

In a statement, Collins’ family expressed their profound grief: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our dear Alex Collins. He was not only loved by his family and friends, but also by fans all over the world. Those who truly knew him can attest to his unwavering determination, boundless energy, and magnetic personality. We kindly request your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We ask for privacy as we navigate through our deep sorrow. Funeral arrangements will be shared as soon as they are finalized.”

Seahawks executive VP/general manager John Schneider expressed the organization’s sadness: “The Seahawks family and the 12s are devastated to hear of Alex’s passing. His infectious smile and iconic river dance moves will forever be missed. Alex had a way of lighting up a room and was adored by everyone in our organization. He embraced life and brought his all to the football field. He etched his name in SEC history as one of the most successful runners. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent Kelli Masters. Alex, you will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, brother.”

Alex Collins first joined the Seahawks in 2016 as a fifth-round pick. After a stint in Baltimore, he returned to Seattle in 2020 and 2021, making significant contributions to the team’s running game and earning the respect of teammates and coaches.

“He brings an incredible spirit to the team,” praised Seahawks coach Pete Carroll in 2021. “He’s thriving. I’m truly excited about his performance.”

Aside from his football skills, Collins endeared himself to Seattle fans with his radiant smile, joyful demeanor, and his trademark Irish dance touchdown celebration, which he developed as a way to improve his footwork before his NFL career.

Collins, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, attended Arkansas after an impressive high school career at South Plantation High School. As Coach Carroll often highlighted, Collins was one of only three players in SEC history to rush for over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.
