Peter Drury to Assume Role of Sky Sports’ Premier League Voice Following Martin Tyler’s Departure
Sky Sports’ Martin Tyler will be succeeded by Peter Drury, according to Mail Sport.
Drury, currently the voice of the Premier League on NBC Sports in the US, will become Sky’s main commentator after Tyler, whose contract was not renewed at the age of 77.
Drury, who began his broadcasting career in 1990 on a local radio station in Leeds, will continue to present for the US audience as well. This move is expected to be well-received, as Drury is highly regarded by viewers and seen as a natural successor to Tyler, who spent 33 years with Sky.
An official announcement from Sky Sports is expected in the near future. Drury is likely to focus on one game per week, which could be scheduled for Sunday, Monday, or midweek.
Peter Drury, right, has agreed to become Sky Sports lead commentator for the Premier League.
Legendary television commentator Martin Tyler has stepped down from his role at Sky Sports.
Tyler, known for his coverage of major tournaments and iconic moments such as Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal for Manchester City in 2012, is not retiring.
Gary Hughes, Sky Sports’ director of football, expressed gratitude to Tyler for his unmatched contribution and dedication to their coverage over the past 30 years. Tyler’s name is synonymous with the Premier League and Sky Sports. His famous commentaries, such as “Collymore closing in” and “Aguerrrrrroooooooooo,” are two of the greatest moments in Premier League history. Sky Sports thanks him and wishes him the best for the future.
