Adorable Qwerty, a Sweet Tri-Colored Tabby Cat, Seeks a Loving Home in DC

Qwerty, the charming domestic shorthair tabby cat with a unique visage, is in the market for a secure and comfortable home in Washington, D.C., after a rather unfortunate start to life. According to City Kitties, the rescue organization that saved Qwerty, she was rescued from a distressing hoarding situation and subsequently received care and attention.

Despite being just 1½ years old, it took some time for this medium-sized lady to develop trust in humans after her rescue. However, after a period of adjustment, her bright personality began to shine through. Qwerty has formed a strong bond with her foster family and loves to sleep directly on top of her foster mom or snuggled up next to her head. She also gets along well with other animals and enjoys socializing with her feline foster siblings and playing with her favorite toy mouse.

Qwerty’s vaccinations are up to date, and she has been spayed. City Kitties, a foster-based rescue organization, does not have a physical location, so all of its pets, including Qwerty, reside in foster homes. Those interested in adopting Qwerty can submit an application through the City Kitties website.

Tri-colored domestic cats like Qwerty are typically female due to the inheritance patterns of cat coloration. The color of a cat’s fur is determined by its genes, specifically the X chromosome, which carries the gene for black or orange fur. Female cats can inherit an orange gene from one parent and a black gene from the other, resulting in tri-colored cats like Qwerty. Male tri-colored cats are rare and occur due to a genetic abnormality where a cat receives two X chromosomes and a Y chromosome.
