- I used to believe that walking a dog without a leash was impossible.
- However, everything changed when my partner found Miley, a stray dog who turned out to be the most well-behaved pet I’ve ever had.
- Even without a leash, Miley loves to wander, but she always comes back when called.
“No leash — imagine that.”
I frequently hear this remark from dog owners who have their pets on leashes, while Miley walks freely by my side. It always reminds me of the journey it took to reach this point with Miley.
Miley was found by my partner, Isaac, two days before we met in 2021. He discovered her hiding under a car in his neighborhood, seeking refuge from the heat. Despite rejecting his roommate, Miley willingly let Isaac carry her inside, revealing her well-mannered nature. Although she wore a collar, the tag had been torn off.
Isaac took the stray to the vet, where he was asked for her name. In the spur of the moment, he blurted out “Miley”. The vet informed Isaac that the dog was not microchipped. After weeks of searching for the owner to no avail, Isaac decided to keep Miley. He believes that her grateful nature and adventurous spirit have brought joy into his life.
The first step was building trust with Miley
Initially, Miley was wary of me. However, as Isaac and I began dating and I frequently visited his home, I discovered that the best way to bond with her was by taking her for walks, which happened to be her favorite activity.
Eventually, Isaac and Miley moved in with me in New York. Last summer, we embarked on a cross-country journey, packing his car with essentials and even making room for Miley’s carrier.
