Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Sofia Coppola have been announced as the honorees at this year’s Academy Museum of Motion Pictures fundraising gala, according to museum officials on Tuesday.
The annual fundraising event, which will be held on October 14th, aims to raise funds for museum exhibits, educational efforts, and public programming. The event is co-chaired by director Ava DuVernay, physician/producer Dr. Eric Esrailian, actress Halle Berry, and writer/director/producer Ryan Murphy.
“We are thrilled to come together once again for our third annual Academy Museum Gala, celebrating the power, global impact, and lasting significance of cinema,” said museum Director/President Jacqueline Stewart in a statement. “It is an absolute honor to recognize the incredible contributions of Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, and Sofia Coppola, whose creativity and passion have profoundly influenced and shaped our culture.”
Streep will receive the Icon Award, which recognizes an artist who has had a noteworthy global impact on the industry. Jordan will be honored with the Vantage Award, acknowledging his role as an emerging artist or scholar who challenges and contextualizes dominant narratives in cinema.
Winfrey will be presented with the Pillar Award, in recognition of her exemplary leadership and support for the Academy Museum. Coppola will receive the Visionary Award, honoring her innovative contributions to the art of cinema.
The event’s host committee includes esteemed Hollywood figures such as Tom Hanks, Don Cheadle, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, Regina Hall, Kirsten Dunst, Goldie Hawn, Jared Leto, Chloe Sevigny, Colin Farrell, Demi Moore, John Travolta, Kate Hudson, Sharon Stone, and Willem Dafoe.
