In an interview with Esquire, Aaron Taylor-Johnson shared his aspirations of becoming a young father long before meeting his wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson.
“I always knew I wanted a big family,” Taylor-Johnson explained. The interview, featured in the latest issue of Esquire, detailed the actor’s thoughts on fatherhood and his relationship with Sam. “I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a father and have many children.”
Aaron, currently 33, first met Sam, now 56, during the production of “Nowhere Boy,” a biographical film about John Lennon’s early life. Aaron portrayed Lennon, while Sam directed the movie. The actor was just 18 years old at the time, while the filmmaker was 41.
The couple’s engagement was announced at the UK premiere of “Nowhere Boy” in 2009, a year after they met.
“As soon as I met her, I knew she was the one,” Aaron told The Telegraph UK in 2019. “I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her, have a family, and a month later she was pregnant with our first child.”

At the time, Sam already had two daughters, named Anjelica and Phoenix, from her previous marriage to art dealer Jay Joplin.
In July 2010, Aaron and Sam welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Wylda Rae. Aaron was 20 years old, while Sam was 43.
Their second daughter, Romy Hero, was born in January 2012. The couple got married five months later and decided to combine their last names, becoming the Taylor-Johnsons.
To commemorate their 10th wedding anniversary in June 2022, Aaron and Sam renewed their vows.
Throughout their relationship, both Aaron and Sam have collaborated on various projects, including the 2018 film “A Million Little Pieces” and Rhye’s music video for “Black Rain,” where Sam directed and Aaron starred.
“We work together amazingly well,” Aaron shared. “But my love for her goes beyond our collaborations.”
The “Kraven the Hunter” star also expressed his happiness in living with Sam and their children in the English countryside. He even turned down major roles in order to prioritize spending time with his daughters.
While Aaron discussed certain aspects of fatherhood, he remained guarded about his personal life. “I have no reason to hide anything, and I’m content with what we have,” Aaron stated. “But there are certain aspects that are precious to me and I choose to keep them private.”
