Apple has unveiled its latest product, a virtual reality headset called Vision Pro. During its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook dubbed the headset the world’s debut of “spatial computing.” According to Alan Dye, vice president of human interface design at Apple, Vision Pro boasts a “familiar yet revolutionary” and fully three-dimensional interface. Users can control Vision Pro through a combination of eye movements, hand gestures and voice commands. When the user wears the headset for the first time, they will see their physical space and everything in front of them in what is known as the “home view.” Alessandra McGinnis, product manager of Vision Pro, notes that everything on Vision Pro is in sync with the user’s iPhone, Mac, and iPad. En Kelly, senior engineering program manager at Apple, explains that Vision Pro users can capture photos and videos by simply clicking a button on the headset. Additionally, Vision Pro users can watch movies that fill entire rooms, while the physical space around them disappears. Disney CEO Bob Iger praised Apple and Disney’s collaborative efforts to push the boundaries of virtual reality, claiming that users will now be able to experience National Geographic adventures or sports games as if they were really there.
