With the support of manga creator Eiichiro Oda, season one of Netflix’s “One Piece” focuses primarily on the initial storyline. Here’s how you can continue the series through the manga and anime while awaiting the renewal of Netflix’s live-action adaptation for season two. After completing the Netflix show, you can seamlessly transition into chapter 96 of the manga or episode 46 of the anime. In the season one finale of “One Piece,” which takes place during the “The Arlong Park Arc,” part of the East Blue Saga and the first portion of the original manga and anime adaptation, Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy) and his emerging crew, the Straw Hat pirates, follow Nami (played by Emily Rudd), who had briefly abandoned them to join another pirate named Arlong (played by McKinley Belcher III), to her hometown. Along the way, they uncover Nami’s deep-seated hatred for pirates and her forced affiliation with Arlong’s crew. As a child, Nami’s island was attacked by Arlong and his crew of Fishmen, human-fish hybrids, who demanded tribute payments in exchange for the residents’ safety. The arrival of Nami’s adopted mother, Bell-Mere (played by Genna Galloway), led to her tragic demise in the ensuing chaos. Nami makes a deal with Arlong, offering her cartography skills and joining their crew in exchange for buying her town back. However, when Nami reveals she possesses the required funds in episode seven, Arlong betrays her. Consequently, Luffy, Sanji (played by Taz Skyler), Usopp (played by Jacob Romero Gibson), and Roronoa Zoro (played by Mackenyu Arata) defeat the Fishmen pirates, liberating Nami and putting an end to their tyranny. The Straw Hats then embark on a journey to the Grand Line in search of the One Piece. Despite being only eight episodes long, season one covers the first 45 episodes of the anime, meaning you can continue the story from episode 46, titled “Chase Straw Hat! Little Buggy’s Big Adventure!” Multiple seasons of the “One Piece” anime are available on Netflix, Pluto, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. If you prefer to read the manga, start with chapter 96, “Worst In The East,” which is found in volume 11 and can be accessed online or in bookstores. The live-action adaptation of “One Piece” makes a few changes from the manga and anime. For instance, in the anime and manga, Buggy does not assist Arlong in his pursuit of Luffy and his crew. Episodes 45 to 47 of the anime actually explain what happens to Buggy and Alvida after their encounter with Luffy, and how they end up joining forces. Additionally, Garp, Luffy’s grandfather and a significant antagonist in season one of the Netflix show, is not formally introduced until much later in the anime and manga. Consequently, the revelations about Luffy’s heritage are concealed for a longer period in the anime than in the Netflix series. Therefore, Garp’s entire storyline, including his utilization of Koby and Helmeppo to chase the Straw Hats throughout the East Blue Sea, as well as his confrontation with Luffy in the season finale, will not be relevant if you continue with the anime.
