As excitement grows for the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 range, those eagerly awaiting the chance to purchase the top-tier Galaxy S24 Ultra will be let down.
The latest leaks about the three new Galaxy S smartphones focus on the memory options available. The Galaxy S24 comes with 8 GB of RAM, the Galaxy S24+ with 8 GB or 12 GB, and the S24 Ultra with 8 GB or 12 GB.
It’s the latter that has disappointed the community. Although not officially launched yet, multiple Galaxy S24 Ultra models were found to be operating with 16 GB of RAM. However, it now seems that Samsung has scaled back the specifications for the top-tier smartphone. More RAM equates to more background applications, faster and smoother transitions between apps, and improved performance from the active app.
With 16 GB, the S24 Ultra could have set the smartphone standard in early 2024. It may still do so, but competing with the South Korean flagship will become much easier.
Nonetheless, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has guaranteed appreciation from the Samsung community in one respect. Unlike the S24 and S24+ models, which will be equipped with a mix of Exynos or Snapdragon chipsets, the S24 Ultra will definitely come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Furthermore, Qualcomm will provide a customized 8 Gen 3 that will unleash more power for Samsung. Whether Samsung can match this with its new Exynos 2400 remains to be seen.
Update: Sunday December 3: With the anticipated enhanced performance of both Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets, one limiting factor will be managing the heat they generate. The more efficiently the heat is dissipated from the handset, the greater sustained performance Samsung can deliver.
The latest details on the various Galaxy S24 handsets reveal improvements in the capacity of the vapor chambers. These aid in spreading heat from a small area, such as the top of a silicon chip, to a larger area for quicker heat dissipation.
The smallest new Galaxy, the S24, will feature a vapor chamber 1.5 times larger than the S23’s, while the S24+’s chamber is 1.6 times larger, and the S24 Ultra’s is 1.9 times larger than the S23 Ultra’s. With Samsung aiming to integrate its new Samsung Gauss AI system into the new Galaxy handsets, sustained power and performance will be critical for delivering the new AI experience to the Galaxy community. Gauss will provide customized experiences, improved performance, and creative support for all users.
Update: Monday December 4: A new leak supported by the team at Sammobile may seem inconsequential to those seeking numbers and speeds from spec leaks, but the reveal of default wallpapers for the Galaxy S24 family confirms earlier details about the color variants of the phones.
Given the impact that colors can have on sales—new colors generally generate significant interest in the market—this is an integral part of Samsung’s retail strategy. The previously discussed colors for the Galaxy S24 Ultra were Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow. It’s also worth noting that the colorways hint at a shift toward a titanium frame for the flagship model.
As for the wallpaper colors? You guessed it… Black, Grey, Violet, and Yellow.
Samsung is expected to unveil the S24 handsets at the next “Galaxy Unpacked” event, which is anticipated to take place on January 17th, 2024.
