Fortnite enthusiasts have much to look forward to this weekend.
Following a month-long season, the highly anticipated Fortnite OG era has drawn to a close. The original map’s return attracted over 100 million players during November, making it the most popular season in the history of this free-to-play Battle Royale game.
The OG season culminated in a live event headlined by rapper Eminem. The Big Bang event also showcased three new games set to join the Fortnite realm:
- LEGO Fortnite — A survival/crafting LEGO adventure.
- Rocket Racing — A racing game developed by Rocket League studio Psynonix.
- Fortnite Festival — A music game developed by Rock Band studio Harmonix where you can play in bands solo or with friends. This is kicking off with The Weeknd on December 9th
The live event was so popular that many players, including myself, faced hour-long queues and were unable to log in to partake in the revelry. Luckily, Epic is holding two more events today.
Now, Epic has disabled all Fortnite experiences and game modes, leaving only player-created content available for the remainder of the day as the game’s creators prepare for the onset of Chapter 5, Season 1. The new season, dubbed “Underground,” is generating buzz. You can view the trailer for the upcoming season, featuring Peter Griffin from Family Guy and Snake from Metal Gear, here.
As anticipation for Chapter 5, Season 1 and a fresh map mounts, server downtime is set to begin at 11:30 pm ET / 8:30 pm PT. Given the magnitude of big seasonal updates, downtime often runs for several hours, and this one may take longer due to the introduction of a new Chapter and a brand new map. A specific launch time for the new season is yet to be confirmed, but it is anticipated to be in the early hours of Sunday, December 3rd. Players will likely be able to install the update upon waking up in the morning.
The three new games—LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival—will all debut following the commencement of the new season next week.
