Members of the Glee cast recently revealed a special surprise to honor the memory of the late Naya Rivera. On Friday, a beautiful, previously unreleased single sung by the beloved Glee star, titled “Prayer for the Broken,” was released posthumously. The track, on which Rivera’s fellow actors provided backing vocals, was made available to fans as part of their annual fundraiser, Snixxmas.
Since Rivera’s passing in July 2020, the cast has organized Snixxmas every year to pay tribute to her and support one of her favorite charities, Alexandria House, which provides aid to women and children in need. This year, all proceeds from the single will go to the organization.
The cast members, including Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, and Amber Riley, received permission from Rivera’s mother and the original songwriters, Isaac Hasson and Lindy Robbins, to release the empowering and heartfelt anthem. The song features soulful, uplifting lyrics that speak to anyone who has ever felt alone or out of place.
Ashley Fink, who was involved in the project, explained that the contemporary R&B track was initially recorded in 2012 and was meant to inspire people to embrace their inner strength. She also expressed that the cast’s collaboration on the song was a poignant and meaningful way to keep Rivera’s spirit and memory alive.
Reflecting on their experiences on Glee, Fink touched upon the cast’s cherished memories of Rivera and the bittersweet moments that bond them together. She lovingly described Glee as a family and opened up about the profound impact shared tragedies and triumphs have had on their relationships.
