GLADSTONE, Mo., Nov. 27— A stolen car driving through Gladstone, Mo., led to the arrest of a man wanted in a three-year-old murder in Wisconsin. This breakthrough was made possible by a license plate reader, which is new technology in the city and gaining popularity in law enforcement agencies across the country.
Karl Burris, support services commander for the Gladstone Police Department, revealed that the license plate reader spotted the Ford Fusion with a stolen tag shortly after midnight on early Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 23. Officers promptly went to the area where the car had been captured by the plate reader.
