#2 Seed Clinching Scenarios Update Below
Following a triumphant 57-7 win over Texas Tech, the Texas Longhorns have officially secured the #1 seed in the 2023 Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship. Closing the league play with an extraordinary .889 winning percentage and an 8-1 record, the Longhorns are currently 11-1 overall.
Designated as the home team and occupying the South bench, the Longhorns will be participating in their seventh appearance in the Big 12 Football Championship. Having previously captured the Conference’s first-ever Football Championship trophy in 1996 and earned titles in 2005 and 2009, Texas is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with.
As for the #2 seed of the 2023 Big 12 Football Championship, it will be determined during tomorrow’s slate of Big 12 Football matchups. Given this, updated clinching scenarios for the #2 seed are listed below:
- If Oklahoma State defeats BYU, the Cowboys clinch a berth to the Championship as the #2 seed, clearly demonstrating their head-to-head wins versus both Oklahoma and Kansas State.
- If Oklahoma State loses on Saturday, Oklahoma clinches the #2 seed. This is by virtue of Oklahoma’s win over Texas, giving them the tiebreaker over Kansas State due to win percentage over the highest placed common opponent (Texas).
- Kansas State has been eliminated by virtue of the Wildcats’ loss to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma having the tiebreaker advantage over Kansas State. This outcome is regardless of tomorrow’s results.
