John Leguizamo believes that Univision’s recent move to cozy up to Donald Trump is a betrayal to its audience.
On Tuesday, the “Encanto” star and fierce advocate for Latino causes penned a scathing op-ed for theLos Angeles Times calling out the Spanish-language network for airing an interview in which the former president, who is facing multiple criminal indictments, was given a “cozy interview.”
Leguizamo emphasized that the interview held an entirely uncritical view of Trump and his policies, especially considering the former president’s inhumane immigration plan for 2025. He called out Univision for offering a platform that failed to hold Trump accountable.
According to Leguizamo, Univision’s sudden favorability towards Trump can be attributed to the network’s new corporate owners, one of whom is friends with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. He stated that this shift in editorial approach is dangerous and betrays the public’s trust in the media.
Leguizamo concluded by stressing that Univision, as one of the most trusted news sources for Spanish speakers, has a duty to report facts and maintain journalistic integrity, regardless of any political affiliations within the company.
