Merced Police arrested Darrion Wayne Murphy, a 21-year-old man wanted in connection to two shootings, including the killing of a teenager at a Halloween party. Murphy was detained without incident in the 13000 block of Jefferson Street in Le Grand by officers in the Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression unit. He was found with a firearm at the time of his arrest, according to the Merced Police Department’s Facebook post.
Murphy was identified as the suspect in the shooting death of Renzo Arellano, a 17-year-old attending a Halloween party on Oct. 27 in Merced. Merced police also linked Murphy to a 7-Eleven store shooting on Nov. 14 after a clerk was shot in the chest.
He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery and is currently booked into the Merced County Jail with a $1.75 million bond. During the Halloween party shooting, officers responding to calls of numerous shots fired found Arellano with multiple gunshot wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The 7-Eleven shooting occurred at the 2255 East Gerard Ave. store in Merced, with the clerk surviving his injuries after being transported to a regional trauma center.
