PFF’s Grading of Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ Performance in their Week 11 Victory against Buccaneers – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Brock Purdy displayed his most remarkable performance to date in the San Francisco 49ers’ 27-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Levi’s Stadium. A thorough analysis of the team’s PFF grades uncovers additional insights.

The second-year quarterback completed 21 of 25 attempts for 333 yards and three touchdowns while under pressure on 51.6 percent of his dropbacks. Purdy’s dominance was evident as he completed nine of eleven attempts for 124 yards, resulting in a 113.6 passer rating under pressure.

Purdy only missed one pass, connecting on 13 of 14 attempts of 10 yards or less downfield. Impressively, he completed seven of eight attempts for 11-19 yard passes and two of three attempts for passes 20 yards or more, amounting to 116 yards and a touchdown.

Since Week 8, Purdy’s impressive performance has seen him average 12.1 yards per attempt – a notable lead over Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who has managed 9.2 yards per attempt.

OFFENSE:

TE George Kittle – 87.8

Kittle attained the highest grade on the 49ers’ offense, catching eight of nine targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. Notably, 56 of Kittle’s yards came after the catch. The exceptional tight end also played a significant role in pass protection, receiving a solid 72.9 grade.

Kittle’s performance is further highlighted by his ability to force two missed tackles and secure five first downs as a receiver.

WR Brandon Aiyuk – 87.6

Aiyuk secured the second-highest grade on the offense, catching five of six targets for an impressive 156 yards and a touchdown. An exceptional aspect of Aiyuk’s performance is that all five of his catches resulted in first downs or touchdowns. He adeptly lined up for 23 plays out wide and 11 in the slot.

RB Christian McCaffrey — 69.7

Although McCaffrey’s 21 carries for 78 yards resulted in an average of 3.7 yards per carry, 51 of those yards came after contact. The talented running back also caught all five of his targets for 25 yards, contributing to six of San Francisco’s 22 first downs.

Offensive line:

LT Trent Williams — 74.8 overall, 68.9 pass blocking (one hurry)

LG Jon Feliciano — 67.8 overall, 50.8 pass blocking (three hurries)

C Jake Brendel — 56.4 overall, 50.0 pass blocking (three hurries)

RG Spencer Burford — 58.5 overall, 15.0 pass blocking (one sack, three hurries)

RT Colton McKivitz — 59.5 overall, 55.7 pass blocking (two hurries)

DEFENSE:

LB Fred Warner – 83.9

Warner excelled on defense across all levels, scoring a quarterback sack, forcing a fumble, and making seven total stops. Notably, Warner allowed catches on all six targets in coverage, but limited the total yards to 20.

DL Arik Armstead – 83.6

Armstead achieved the second-highest grade with his stellar production on the interior of the line. He notably registered a career-high 12 pressures on Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, resulting in one sack, one hit, and 10 hurries.

S Tashaun Gibson – 80.1

The experienced safety secured the third-highest grade on defense, allowing just one catch on four targets for three yards. Gibson also registered a vital pass breakup and managed to avoid missing any tackles.

S Ji’Ayir Brown – 76.8

The rookie made an impactful contribution by allowing just one reception for 41 yards on two targets, while also breaking up two passes and securing one interception.

ODDS AND ENDS:

The entire defense remained involved in the pass rush, resulting in 38 total pressures, including six sacks, four hits, and 28 hurries.
