Woman Missing in Winter Springs Located Deceased in Storage Unit, Sheriff’s Office Confirms

A Winter Springs woman, Shakeira Rucker, was tragically discovered deceased inside a storage unit in Apopka, as reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.

Rucker’s body was found within a unit at Self Storage on Wiggins Road, with the sheriff’s office providing an update late Saturday.

The post stated, “Shakeira’s family was notified this evening. We grieve with them & our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case.”

Deputies had responded to the location earlier in the day, and are now treating Rucker’s passing as a homicide case.

The Winter Springs Police Department disclosed that Rucker, 37, was last seen on Nov. 11 leaving her home with her estranged husband Cory Hill.

Although Hill, 51, was subsequently taken into custody on attempted murder charges in a separate incident, Rucker was not found with him at the time.

The charges against Hill stemmed from an altercation at Holly Creek Road in Zellwood, where he purportedly fired shots at a woman and her family, per the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Hill then fled the scene but was later apprehended by Mount Dora police.

Sentinel staff writer Cristóbal Reyes contributed to this report.
