The New York Jets have struggled to find the end zone this season, with a league-low eight offensive touchdowns in nine games. They have been unable to score in their last two games, both resulting in losses.
In an effort to address their offensive shortcomings, the Jets held a players-only meeting on Tuesday, their off day, to discuss the situation.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson shared insights from the meeting during his appearance on ESPN New York radio, emphasizing the need for the team to be in sync and find a way to break out of their funk.
Despite the need for change, Jets coach Robert Saleh ruled out replacing quarterback Zach Wilson or offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Zach Wilson’s performance has been subpar, ranking 30th in the NFL with a passer rating of 74.6.
Running back Michael Carter has been the only casualty so far, with the team opting for his release.
Garrett Wilson expressed regret over the team’s offensive display and remained hopeful that the meeting would ignite a turnaround and put them back in contention.
The team’s outlook may also depend on whether starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers decides to return this season, but the Jets remain focused on salvaging their performance.
Garrett Wilson stressed the importance of proactive measures, stating, “We don’t want to finish the season and look back like we should’ve done this earlier…so let’s talk about it now.”
