Tragic Loss: Brave Chicago Firefighter Killed in Intense Battle with Lincoln Park Blaze

Tragically, a firefighter, described as “loved by so many,” lost his life while battling a fire in Lincoln Park on Monday morning. Firefighter Andrew Price, aged 39, was trapped in a burning building at 2430-2432 N. Lincoln Ave. but was eventually rescued. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Chicago Fire Department Commissioner, Annette Nance-Holt, said that Price was on the roof when he fell through a light shaft, causing “significant injuries”. Crews had to break a hole through the wall to rescue him, and they performed CPR on him. Price was known affectionately as “Drew” and was married with children. He was admired for his dedication to fitness and was mourned by many.

Before the accident, Battalion Chief Mike McCormick and his team were alerted by a woman about a fire in a kitchen of the building. They were searching for “hot pockets” of fire when Price sustained his fatal injuries.

Speaking on Price’s character, McCormick said that he was “as sweet as could be” and a “light of sunshine.” Mayor Brandon Johnson also expressed his condolences, echoing the sentiments of others who knew Price. Johnson released a statement saying, “Andrew gave his life in service to the City of Chicago, taking his position at the frontlines of a threat to our safety and community.”

Tragically, this is the fourth firefighter to lose his life in the line of duty in Chicago this year. The community is in mourning, and the fire department’s safety is in the thoughts of many.
