GOP debate: Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy argue about high heels
Presidential candidates’ Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley turned part of the GOP debate into a heel size argument.
WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel pushed back at 2024 GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for taking a jab at her over the party’s string of disappointing election results, stating that the biotech entrepreneur is merely seeking attention. She expressed this sentiment during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
“Last I checked, I wasn’t running for president,” McDaniel retorted. “He’s at 4%, he’s looking for headlines.”
Ramaswamy targeted McDaniel and urged her to step down at the third Republican presidential debate on Wednesday, holding her responsible for failing to attract more voters and labeling the GOP as a “party of losers.”
“Since Ronna McDaniel took over as chairwoman of the RNC in 2017, we haven’t been successful in 2018, 2020, 2022 – no red wave … We got trounced last night in 2023. And I think that we have to have accountability in our party,” Ramaswamy stated, highlighting the GOP’s recent defeats in this year’s off-year elections.
Ramaswamy reiterated his criticisms later, tweeting on X, formerly Twitter, “Ronna should resign. This shouldn’t be controversial.”
McDaniel dismissed Ramaswamy’s comments and emphasized that Republicans should concentrate on defeating President Joe Biden in the 2024 elections.
“We should be taking on Democrats, not each other,” McDaniel pointed out, observing that intra-party conflict extends beyond the presidential race, referring to the removal of former speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“This circular firing squad, this attacking other Republicans like we saw with Kevin McCarthy, like we’ve been seeing over and over again, is hurting us. And we have a map in 2024 where we can win the White House, take back the Senate and win the House,” she concluded.
