A recent CNN poll released on Tuesday has raised concerns about Joe Biden’s chances for reelection, as he continues to fall further behind his 2020 opponent and current GOP frontrunner, Donald Trump.
According to the poll of registered voters, Trump is leading Biden 49 percent to 45 percent in a hypothetical 2024 matchup. This is a significant increase from the 47 percent to 46 percent lead Trump held in the same poll taken just a few months earlier, from August 25-31.
Furthermore, the poll revealed that Biden’s approval rating is at a low 39 percent, while Trump’s is slightly worse at 38 percent. Only 28 percent of respondents said things are currently going well in the country under Biden’s presidency.
One of the most worrying findings for Biden is that only 25 percent of those polled believe he has the stamina and sharpness needed for the job. This is in stark contrast to Trump, who received much higher scores in this category, with 53 percent saying he has the necessary qualities.
When it comes to support within their respective parties, 51 percent of Democrats believe Biden has the stamina and sharpness, while 90 percent of Republicans believe Trump possesses these qualities.
In a surprising twist, the poll also indicated a narrowing of support among voters aged under 35, with 48 percent supporting Trump and 47 percent favoring Biden. This is a significant shift from previous support levels within this demographic.
Additionally, in a four-way race with independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, Trump led Biden 41 percent to 35 percent, with Kennedy at 16 percent and West at 4 percent.
Biden also falls behind in hypothetical matchups against former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The concerns about his chances for reelection have grown, especially after a New York Times/Siena College poll showed Trump leading Biden in key battleground states, leading to raised concerns from political commentator David Axelrod.
With mounting concerns about his reelection bid, Biden faces a potential challenge from independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose surprising support in recent Quinnipiac and CNN polls has added another layer of complexity to the 2024 race.
These recent developments have led to speculation and discussions about whether Biden should reconsider his campaign, with potential challengers within the Democratic party, such as Dean Phillips from Minnesota, expressing their concerns about Biden’s chances for a successful reelection.
