According to Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the United States is losing credibility on the global stage due to its double standard in supporting Ukraine compared to Palestinians.
Speaking to Kristen Welker on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” she highlighted how the White House has shown unconditional support for Israel’s efforts to annihilate Gaza, while Palestinians face intense attacks.
As of Sunday morning, Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, which human rights groups warn amounts to ethnic cleansing, has resulted in the deaths of over 8,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children. Israel has also cut off access to basic necessities and communication.
Last week, President Joe Biden faced backlash for questioning the Palestinian death toll while reaffirming support for Israel. Jayapal argued that the United States’ double standard diminishes its moral authority and isolates it from the international community.
Biden recently requested $106 billion in aid, with more than half going to Ukraine and over $14 billion to Israel. Jayapal emphasized the need to question where taxpayer dollars go and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
UNRWA reported that desperate Gazans have resorted to breaking into aid warehouses due to the limited assistance provided by Israel. This situation is a concerning sign of civil order breaking down in Gaza.
