Ark: Survival Ascended Achieves Phenomenal Success on Steam Despite Launch Hiccups

The highly anticipated Ark: Survival Ascended was released on PC overnight and quickly became the best-selling game on Steam. However, players have been encountering performance issues that have affected the launch.

Ark: Survival Ascended is Studio Wildcard’s Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original dinosaur-filled survival game Ark: Survival Evolved. It is now available on Steam along with the original game. Both Survival Ascended and Survival Evolved are among Steam’s top 100 most played games by concurrent players, with Survival Ascended climbing rapidly.

However, the remake currently has a ‘mixed’ user review rating of 42%, with many negative reviews mentioning performance issues. One Steam review stated: “Despite having a powerful computer capable of running graphically intensive games such as Cyberpunk and Red Dead Redemption 2, I am unable to run this game without multiple crashes, stutters, and FPS issues even on the lowest graphical settings. It’s unacceptable for a remaster to be released in such a state. Shouldn’t a remaster aim to improve performance and visuals? This is a terrible product.”

Here are the Ark: Survival Ascended PC system requirements (note: the game requires an SSD):

MINIMUM:

  • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K

While Ark: Survival Ascended is now available on PC, its console launch has been delayed to November. Studio Wildcard stated that it encountered “some critical issues” in the multiplayer version of the game that would have had “major implications” for the console versions. As a result, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S launch has been postponed to next month.

Studio Wildcard expressed their disappointment over the delay, acknowledging the excitement surrounding the launch and the plans made by fans. They assured players that they would strive to make the game the best it can be when it releases in November. The developer also mentioned that crossplay between Steam and consoles will remain disabled until a faster certification process is implemented, ensuring a smoother console launch with a more stable modding experience.

Studio Wildcard added, “We know that this news is far from ideal, however, we’ll be doing our best to make the game as good as it can be when it launches in November. We are really grateful for the support and cannot wait to get ASA with cross-platform mods into your hands!”
