Man Tortured and Kidnapped from Michigan Gym; Florida Man Faces Charges

A man from Florida is facing 12 felony charges after allegedly carjacking, kidnapping, and torturing an individual outside a fitness center in Michigan, according to prosecutors. The incident occurred on October 23, when a 24-year-old man was approached by four individuals, including Angel Antonio Andujar-Ruiz, 38, of Tampa, Florida. They carjacked him, tied him up, and forced him into his own vehicle. The suspects then tortured the victim, took him to his house, and entered the residence. Police arrived at the victim’s home, but Andujar-Ruiz fled in the victim’s vehicle with the 24-year-old still in it. A high-speed chase ensued through local neighborhoods, which was captured on video and shared on Facebook by the police department. Eventually, Andujar-Ruiz crashed the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but he was apprehended after being Tased. On October 24, prosecutors announced that Andujar-Ruiz had been charged with 12 felonies, including carjacking, armed robbery, torture, and home invasion. The three other individuals involved have not been identified or captured at this time. The motive behind the incident and the relationship between Andujar-Ruiz and the victim have not been disclosed. However, authorities believe that the abduction was not a random act. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the severity of the crime and called for justice. Shelby Township, where the incident occurred, is located approximately 30 miles north of Detroit.
